While the state of Connecticut is celebrating it’s 375th birthday this year, Westport is looking for ways to celebrate it’s 175th birthday as well. Westport was sectioned out of parts of Fairfield and Norwalk which ran along the Saugatuck River in what is now Westport’s center. It received its charter from Connecticut by a special act of the legislature which was signed on May 28, 1835.
Not only is the town of Westport looking for ways to mark the town’s birthday, there has been a committee formed to develop a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the town’s $1.9 million purchase of the Longshore Club Park in 1960, regarded as the most significant land acquisition in the town’s history. I have to say that this is also one of my personal favorites. I always leave the restaurant feeling like it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had!
