Bedford Middle School Wins National Award
Westport’s Bedford Middle School was recently recognized as a 2009 recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Award. Administered by the U.S. Department of Education, the designation is part of a federal program which recognizes schools that are academically superior or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to superior levels. Bedford is among eight schools in the state of Connecticut to win the award, three of which are public schools. Read more
Swine Flu Vaccine in Westport and Weston
A shortfall in the supply of the swine flu vaccine has been predicted by health officials, as the numbers of cases grow to levels unprecedented for this time of year. Forty three children have died from swine flu since Aug. 30 , nearly the same number that usually die in an entire flu season. Nineteen of the forty three who died were teenagers, and sixteen were from five to eleven years old; the rest were under five. Read more

The $8,000 tax credit for first time home buyers was initiated last winter as a boost for sluggish home sales. It was meant to stimulate and create something like shock therapy during a crisis.
