Are you ready to move, but overwhelmed by the choices? Located in the Southwest corner of Connecticut, Fairfield County has a lot to offer. There are beautiful beaches, top universities, highly populated cities, and bucolic quiet towns. So which town is right for you?

Here are some helpful questions to ask yourself before contacting your Realtor:

  1. Do I want to be in a city, near a beach, in a private wooded area, in a family friendly neighborhood?
  2. Do I need to commute to work? Fairfield County is serviced by Metro North railroad, and is flanked by both the Merritt Parkway and I95. Decide how many minutes a day you are willing to commute, and whether it will be by car or public transportation?
  3. How much can I spend on buying a new home or rental property?
  4. Are there special amenities I am looking for?
  • Cultural Resources: arts centers, museums, theaters
  • Recreational Services: senior centers, children’s recreation/sports
  • Hospitals/Health Services
  • Educational Services: public or private schools, special needs services

Once you have asked yourself all of these questions, call your Realtor. A good salesperson can help you narrow your choices based on those criteria. You can also look up properties on the Internet in your price range and see what towns work for you. For one last piece of research go to the local lunch spot, coffee shop or playground and look around, it’s a good way to give you a sense of the community.
